home to Peace Valley Guest Ranch, Queen Elizabeth Provincial Park (Lac Cardinal), the Shaftesbury Trail, and two outstanding museums.  The M.D. is bordered on the south and east by the mighty Peace River.

Shaftesbury Ferry

A “must see and do” in the Peace Country is Shaftesbury Trail.  Turning south off Highway 2 on RR 235 will take you on a scenic journey through the Peace River hills along paved Highway #684 on the Shaftesbury Trail.  The Trail can be taken to Peace River, allowing visitors to explore the rich history of the area via a series of Lot markers detailing the history of Missions and explorer and fur trader Alexander Mackenzie.  Ride the Shaftesbury ferry across the Peace River for a unique Peace Country experience.

A sandy beach, paved walking trails, beautiful camp stalls and picnic areas describe Queen Elizabeth Provincial Park.  Although there is no fishing, the lake is perfect for sailing and water play. A designated wetland area on the east side of the park is a bird watcher’s paradise. Lac Cardinal Pioneer Village Museum, located just past the entrance to the Provincial Park, is home to a pioneer village and farm; complete with private homes, church, smithy, bakery and farm equipment.   The first weekend in August sees the village come alive for Pioneer celebrations with wagon rides, equipment and smithy demonstrations, children’s activities, dancing, and folks dressed in period costumes to complete the feel of stepping back in time to the early 1930’s. The area in between the Provincial Park and the Pioneer Museum is home to the North Peace Stampede grounds.   The stampede dates back to 1956 and is celebrated the first weekend in August every year.
The MD is proud to be home to the Peace Valley Guest Ranch, a working cattle ranch offering trail rides, river cruises, cabin rentals and a quiet place to get away from it all.
