Natural, picturesque, pristine and inviting,
Northern Sunrise County offers over 21,573 sq. kms.
of adventure and exploration.
Located 485 km’s north of Edmonton and only a short
drive south of Peace River, the County offers year
round rural experiences; farmers markets, museums,
the Harmon Valley Rodeo, golf, camping, parks
and a Winter Carnival. The regions agricultural producers range from beef, bison, dairy & honey producers, grains to forage and unique cultural products. As members of Branding the Peace, a regional branding initiative, County businesses
produce some of the finest products in the world; in agriculture
and agri-food products, arts & culture, and tourism. Aboriginal
and Francophone communities, diverse culture and
events all abound in this northern paradise. In 2005 the Hank
Williams First Nation movie was filmed in the Peace Region.
Upon its release in 2005, Hank Williams First Nation was praised
for its realistic depictions of aboriginal life in Northern Alberta.
The filming of the Hank Williams First Nation TV series first season
was completed during2006. The series shows off the scenery found
in and around Cadotte Lake and Peace River. The Peace, Smoky and
Heart River Valleys offer excellent outdoor recreation, including
activities such as camping, hunting, hiking, fishing and picnicking.
Wildlife activity remains a prominent feature of the area.
Moose, deer and bear are common throughout the County,
particularly in the vicinity of the Peace River Valley slopes. The vast
unspoiled wilderness, wildlife, clean, pure water and wide-open sky
are hard to compare.
