Chilkoot Trail Travel Series

Peace River to Paris Fur Exhibit
March 23, 2013 - Peace River Centennial Museum
Local collector Verne MacRoberts from Grimshaw will exhibit some of his Hudson Bay Company collection and his vintage guns on March 23 from 2 to 4:30pm. Verne will speak to his passion for the HBC history at 3pm. For more information, please contact the Museum at 780-624-4261.

Historic Paint Palettes
April 3, 2013 – Athabasca Hall, Peace River
A speaker series on maintaining your heritage home will be offered by the Luxton firm. The first topic will discuss historic paint palettes for the area on April 3 at 7pm at the Athabasca Hall. Retrospective of Art and Artists of the Peace
April 19, 2013 – Peace River Centennial Museum
The Museum and the Peace of Art artists are working on a new exhibit for April and May, celebrating 25 years as the Peace of Art club with a retrospective of art and artists of the Peace. You will see art works from Isobel Levesque, Gladys Marshall, Suzanne Hawthorn, Doreen Hutchinson and many more. Culture Trails
May 11, 2013 – Peace River Museum
10:00 am – 12:00 pm
Join other art enthusiasts on to explore several venues where art can be viewed in our region. This self-guided driving tour will begin at the Museum Saturday at 10am to take in the current Peace of Art exhibit, then on to view works at Claire’s House of Frames, followed by the Art Gallery at the Peace River Library. From here, we will travel along the historic Shaftesbury Trail and stop for a stretch at the Mackenzie Cairn, up Brick’s Hill to the Berwyn 50th Ave Workshop . The journey will conclude in Grimshaw at the new art gallery called the Stroke of Genius. This trip should take just under two hours and car pooling is encouraged. Travelogues

Quilts and the Settlement of Canada
May 27, 2013 – Peace River Museum
The Alberta Quilt Project , compiled by the Royal Alberta Museum (RAM), continues to document quilts of Alberta. Lucie Heins from the RAM will be at the Peace River Museum May 27th from 1 – 4:30pm to photograph your heritage quilts that were brought to Alberta by immigrants or made in Alberta prior to 1970. Please call the Peace River Museum for an appoint to document and photograph your  quilt. She will also be presenting that evening, at 7pm, “Quilts and the Settlement of Canada”.

The Pioneer Threshermens Association Demolition Derby
June 30, 2013 – Triangle Grounds, High Prairie
People from all over Alberta will participate in these demolition events. They will be competing for cash prizes, trophies and hope to smash their way to victory! All they will need is to prepare a vehicle and have a heavy foot on the gas pedal! Although this sounds simple, the drivers must adhere to the rules for preparation of the demolition vehicles and of course the rules of engagement.

Peace Fest
July 12 -13, 2013 – Peace River
Professional bands, street performers, jet boat races and more. Gates open at 6:00 pm both nights. Concert concludes at 2:00 am both nights. Food vendors and beer gardens on site. Tickets are $65 each night or $99 for a weekend pass. Children 9 and under are free when accompanied by an adult.
