Take a ride on the Shaftesburry Ferry, located near Grimshaw and Peace River. The ride lasts less than 10 minutes, is free, and gives you a magnificent view of the Peace River. A nice option is to have a picnic at Tangent Park, located on the east bank of the Ferry crossing. To reach the ferry from Peace River take the Shaftesburry Trail ( watch for signs near the bridge in Peace River) , or from Grimshaw take highway 684, located just minutes south of Grimshaw. Both routes are paved and the trip makes an excellent circle tour. The Shaftesburry Trail has a series of “Lot Markers: each representing the history of the fur trade and early settlers and explorers.
The Thompkins Landing (La Crete) Ferry is located just north of Paddle Prairie, south of High Level, on Highway 697. Watch for signs on Highway 2. This ferry also provides a 10 minute cruise across the Peace River and runs 24 hours a day. A small campground is located on the east bank at the ferry crossing. Using the ferry will save travellers a lot of time when travelling to La Crete!

The museum provides interesting artifacts from the development of the community, as well as the fur trade and First Nations People. Located on the banks of the Peace River, Fort Vermilion provides the best boat launch access on the Peace River.
Visit Historic Dunvegan Park, take a tour of the historical buildings, camp, hike, use the paved, landscaped walking trails, picnic, play, fish, or just relax and take in this natural wonder. Dunvegan is located 26 km south of Fairview on Highway 2. The Dunvegan Bridge is the longest gravity anchored suspension bridge in Alberta.
