| I am in Bay Tree Alberta. Bay Tree, in the Saddle Hills County, is the last stop when you are headed west out of the province on Hwy 49 or the first stop heading east when you are coming into the province of Alberta. Bay Tree may look tiny, just a gas station and a store, but there is more to Bay Tree than meets the eye. There are many home based entrepreneurs in the area. I am one of them. I have a small farm, Starbright Farm (links to Facebook/starbrightfarm), on Range Road 130, we do farm tours for families, sell farm raised products like llama and rabbit, I have a fabric and gift store on the farm, as well as a commercial kitchen that I make my famous Buttery Bites Caramels in. I live in a fantastic northern agricultural area, no doubt about it. I am not growing any oranges here, but the other crops are abundant. After several years of drought, we got lots of rain this year, which provided a bumper crop of alfalfa hay, but drowned my potatoes. As a farmer, you just roll with the punches and keep going. What I love about my community: I love living in a town that almost no one has heard of. Bay Tree is finally on the last map that I bought and last time I checked, Google did not have a road yet to Bay Tree from BC, even though there is highway 49, paved and all.
