River racing is a pure adrenaline rush where jet boats navigate the challenging waterways of the Peace River and the Smoky River at speeds of up to 160mph. Nerves of steel and total mechanical reliability are essential to success in one of the most challenging action packed sports around.

The Peace River Gold Cup will be in Town of Peace River on July 29, 30, 31, 2022. Race teams will make the journey from all over Alberta, British Columbia and the Northwest Territories to compete for their chance to stake claim to the 2022 Peace River Gold Cup and hoist the prestigious 2022 trophies.

Do not miss this epic weekend, the races offer a true adrenaline junkie experience all set amidst the beautiful peace region. This weekend is packed with fun for the whole family.

Races can be watched from the river banks throughout Peace River. Bring your lawn chair and come experience what the Mighty Peace has to offer!

The best places to view the races are from Riverfront Park, the North Peace Boat Launch, on the Riverfront Walking Path or at Murphy Flats.

Riverfront Park there will be a beer garden and the Board ‘N’ Barrel Food Truck.

Event Schedule


Friday, July 29
Show and Shine from 4pm to 10pm at the Legion in Peace River, Alberta. This is a family friendly event, families are encouraged to come out to take pictures and meet the racers and crew. Race Weekend Programs will be available at the event and can be signed by the racers and crew.

Saturday, July 30
Circuit Races. As outlined on the map, the width of the course varies from 300′ to 2638′. The course will be outlined by buoys to outline turns. There will be five laps per heat with no more than 10 boats will be racing on the course at one time. The total length of one lap is 8 miles.

Leg 1 – North Loop: The start line will be located at Riverfront Park. The boats will be heading North (downstream), make a left turn West around the buoy and island, and head back north around the buoy. Counter-clockwise loops. 5 laps per heat.

Leg 2 – The start line will be located at Riverfront Park. The boats will begin facing South (upstream), the flag will raise and the racers will head North following the West side. They will turn left (East) and head back down to the finish line to complete one lap. 5 laps per heat.

Sunday, July 31, 2022
Long Leg Race. 40 mile race.

Leg 3 – Boaters race upstream to Watino via the Smokey River from Riverfront Park

Leg 4 – Boaters race downstream from Watino via the Smokey River to Riverfront Park.
