This is it folks – northern Alberta’s best kept secret! Visit a premium ski hill with a short yet scenic 200km drive from Grande Prairie. Alpine skiing doesn’t get much better than this, and it’s suitable for all ages and skill levels. When you’re ready for a break, head into the chalet for a picturesque view and some of the best cinnamon buns you’ve ever tasted.
Into cross-country? An abundance of trails leading away from the ski hill are all free to use!
Fairview Ski Hill
Only a short drive southwest of Fairview, view the gorgeous Hines Creek coulee as you race down entirely natural snow. With over six kilometres of groomed runs, fourlifts ranging from beginner to expert, and a diverse terrain park, FairviewSki Hill is the perfect spot for a family outing. If you don’t go skiing very often, that’s okay! They have the best rental selection in the region, and offer lessons for beginners.
Cummings Lake Trail and Sand Hills
Strap on the skis and enjoy the groomed public-access trails at Cummings Lake and the Sand Hills (20 km of trails altogether), which are maintained by the Dunvegan Nordic Ski and Cycle Club.
There are plenty of places in Alberta to ski, but none of them compare to the untamed wilderness of northern Alberta. The Mighty Peace area is a sight to behold any time of year, but the snow covered hills are what make it truly iconic.
Little Smoky Ski Area
