Meet Dr. Izanne Nel, 50, her husband Chris, 51, and her children Anina, 9, and Christophe, 6. Dr. Nel and her family moved up from South Africa. She is now a doctor in Manning.
"During spring and fall, we are often blessed with beautiful shows of the Aurora Borealis—something travellers pay large amounts of money and travel great distances, just to leave without seeing. May we always remember how fortunate we are when we watch them from our back door." ~ Dr. Nel.

CUTE PLACES TO STAY IN ALBERTA! 🩵💙 Up in the beautiful #MightyPeace Region of north west Alberta, you’ve got to stay at YurtBeautiful near the Town of Grimshaw, located in the County of Northern Lights. 🌟✨ It’s a 5 hour drive from Edmonton or 2 hours from Grande Prairie.
I’m back working with MightyPeaceTourism to share some exploration inspiration for your summer vacation! 🥰 (#MightyPeace_Partner) Like glamping at this charming and unique bed and breakfast lovingly operated by husband and wife duo Brian and Sharon. 💛
The spacious 20 foot diameter round yurt was hand-crafted by a Mongolian family on the principle of fair trade through Canadian yurt supplier Groovy yurts. Lights are solar powered inside and out on the platform the yurt is set on, surrounded by trees. The cute and clean bathroom and outdoor shower is just steps away. The yurt is insulated with sheep wool, and camel hide is cut and used to attach the pieces of the yurt’s lattice together. Horse hair is used for the ropes that hold the shape of the yurt. It’s extremely authentic, very cute, and unlike accommodations you’ve likely stayed before.
Yurt Beautiful offers delicious, homecooked and beautifully presented meals. There’s a fire pit inside a repurposed grain silo, meditation rock garden, fairy house, and fluffy visitors like the very sweet Misha the cat and friendly dogs Benelli and Miley, who help keep wildlife away.
This glamping site is also very close to Lac Cardinal Point Uplands Conservation Area and the Town of Peace River, as well as so many more activities to do in the Mighty Peace Region!
Check availability and book your Yurt Beautiful experience! The season runs May through end of September. 🗓️ ➡️
See my previous Travel Guides with suggestions for things to do in the Mighty Peace Region on my blog at the link in my bio.
And stay tuned for even more itinerary ideas from my recent trip up to the Mighty Peace Region working with Mighty Peace Tourism!

For Michelle Gnam, grownorthgardens, it’s a thoughtful mix of practicality and creativity. She considers what will thrive in the Peace Country’s unique climate, what’s best suited for her greenhouse, and how each bloom fits into a colour palette that shifts with the seasons.
In this week’s episode of The Rural Woman Podcast, Michelle shares how she maps out her growing season—from choosing climate-friendly varieties to building colour palettes that shift with the seasons. She opens up about what’s surprised her most in this journey, and why she believes flowers do more than brighten a room—they create connection, evoke memories, and bring people together in powerful ways.
This episode is brought to you in partnership with mightypeacetourism, proud supporters of the real stories and rural magic blooming across Northwestern Alberta. Start planning your own visit at mightypeace.com.
