Enjoy Local Community Flavour at Peace River Brewing
It’s Friday night. You’ve got a golden-brown homemade German pretzel in one hand and a golden-brown mug of ale in the other. You’re sitting in a cozy yet spacious room, surrounded by warm wood walls, a warm fire, and the warmth of friends.
No, this isn’t a dream. This is the family-friendly tap room of Peace River Brewing, the craft brewery owned by husband-wife team Tyrell Kehler and Medrey Bond.
Settle in for a pint of one of their nine on-tap beers. Maybe Wishful Drinking, a wheat ale with hints of clove and bubblegum. Or Leddy Lager, named after local Leddy Lake. Or the eponymous Kehler’s Kolsch, with its crisp, light flavour.
Other drink names on their hand-chalked menu board include Singing Black Bear, Shop Pop, and the ever-popular Bangin’ Belgian, inspired by the Belgian beers Bond and Kehler enjoyed on their travels through Europe. The newest addition draws its name from the Peace River Airport call letters—YPE ESB (Extra Special Bitter).
They even have kombucha.
Of course, because it’s craft beer, every batch is unique. Even the standard offerings at Peace River Brewing are always evolving to improve the flavour. So you never have a chance to get bored!
The beers are all brewed by Kehler in 600 L batches, then canned and kegged by Bond and their staff. The kombucha is fermented and flavoured on-site by Bond’s mother, Jennifer Bond.
Glimpses of the shiny stainless steel vessels used to brew the beer can be seen from the sitting area out front, and you will sometimes see the team working while you sip, making you feel connected to the process from beginning to end.
The Grazing Gallery features a selection of grain products and condiments from local business Brew Bites, among others. Delicious flavoured mustards, jellies, pickles, and chutneys compliment spent grain crackers (made from the grain leftover after brewing) and, of course, their delicious lye-dipped baked pretzels. They also sell locally sourced cured meats and cheeses.
If you’re taking your brew to go, grab a can or fill a branded growler, which makes a handy keepsake.
Current offerings can be seen on their website at https://www.peaceriverbrewing.ca/. They also have a full line of swag—sweaters, T-shirts, toques, tumblers, and more—and they ship within Alberta.
So come on in. Join the Peace River Brewing community.
