THE BEST BAKERY IN NORTHERN ALBERTA? 🍩🥖🧁🫶🏻 Save this post for when you plan your next visit up to the Mighty Peace Region in northwest Alberta.

You NEED to stop at northern.dough, a small batch, artisan bakery specializing in doughnuts, breads, cupcakes and other delicious, made fresh in-house confections. 🥰😋

It was so lovely to chat with Allie, the proud owner of this all butter 🧈 bakery 🤤 located in the tiny town of Grimshaw, Alberta near Peace River, about 5 hours northwest of Edmonton.

Allie opened the cozy bakery space less than a year ago, after a few years operating a successful home-based bakery. The store has already become a popular destination for the region!

We arrived at opening 8 a.m. on a Friday and there was already a revolving door of happy customers picking up their treats for the weekend. Our visit luckily landed on their popular ‘Doughnut Friday’ where the window is stocked with doughnuts! I really advise you plan your trip to ensure you’re there for only a few days of the month where they put out these tasty, specialty brioche doughnuts. It’s also in your best interest to show up in the morning because there’s no guarantees what will be in stock by the afternoon.

Along with donuts, we enjoyed the trendy flat croissant, chocolate chip cookie, cupcakes, and ham and cheese croissant sandwich we tried during this visit. 🤤

I haven’t tried all the bakeries in northern Alberta (yet!) so I can’t definitively say that Northern Dough is *the best* in the area but I’m *pretty* confident it is. 😉😋

A wicked winter experience in the Mighty Peace Region of Northern Alberta 🤟🏻 and my first time getting on a board in over a decade 🏂❄️ at whispering_pines_ski_hill!! 🥰

I’m really proud of how I did (not just for the Instagram photo. 😅)

This winter I’m back working with MightyPeaceTourism to experience the region during this season + producing a travel guide for things you can do when you visit, including “shredding the gnar” down one of six ski hills in the area!! ❄️

The Mighty Peace Region, located five hours northwest of Edmonton, is home to the most concentrated amount of ski hills in the province. Super cool! 🎉 You could plan your trip as a ski/snowboard circuit.

As Benjimin gets bigger we’ve been talking about teaching him how to snowboard and I wasn’t confident I could still do it with a weaker knee from an injury a few years ago (when I tried skiing instead of snowboarding 😓 lol). Super happy with how comfortable I felt getting back on the snowboard and so excited to do more runs in the future!! 💖

Whispering Pines Ski Hill in Worsley, part of the Mighty Peace Region, will always have a special place in my heart! 🫶🏻 They’ve been operating since 1984, feature 100% natural snow, with groomed runs for beginners to experts, and a cute log cabin chalet.

Super grateful for our very patient, positive and personable instructor jessicadekinder!!! 😍 Who also made a great filming crew with my friend shereenzink. 🎥😂🙌🏻
