Woodland Cree First Nation Treaty Days
On August 21 to 23 get ready for a weekend of cultural immersion, delectable food, and exhilarating fun at the Woodland Cree First Nation Treaty Days! This free family event is the perfect opportunity to connect with and celebrate the vibrant local Indigenous culture.
The excitement begins at 10 a.m. at the Woodland Cree First Nation Recreation Grounds on the first day with opening ceremonies, speeches, and a parade. Finish each day with a literal bang while watching the nightly fireworks display. And in the hours between, there’s plenty to do!
Enjoy land games such as knife and axe throwing, archery, wrestling (both traditional and arm wrestling), and canoe racing. Take part in cultural workshops led by knowledgeable Elders and learn to make ribbon skirts and other traditional crafts. Kids can celebrate with face painting and bouncy castles. There will even be a talent show featuring local talent, including jigging and air band.
When hunger strikes, indulge in traditional flavours at the culture camps—traditional campsites and food cooked over an open fire hosted by several local families. There will be plenty of vendors and local artisans where you can purchase treats and souvenirs. And don’t miss the live bands providing musical entertainment throughout the weekend!
Treaty Days is your chance to have some fun and make unforgettable memories. So pack up the family and head out to the Woodland Cree Culture and Recreational Area at Simon Lake on August 21 to 23, 2024, for a cultural event you won’t want to miss!
