Q&A With The End Of Steel Museum.

The End of Steel Museum opened to the public in 1985 and has been growing and evolving ever since. The museum celebrates the history of the Hines Creek area which is unique because it was the end of the railway line. The tracks were built only to the point that freight rates would have increased and no further. This entailed the moving of the village, from its original site on the creek from which it takes its name, to the present day location.

Tell us about the museum?

Our museum is a collection of local historic buildings and artifacts from the Hines Creek and Clear Hills area.  Many thousands of volunteer hours have gone into creating this museum.

What can a visitor expect when they visit the museum?

Visitors can expect to tour the different buildings in the 1940 – 1960 era to see how our grandparents and great grandparents lived. We also have antique farming equipment to view.

What makes the museum unique from any other museum in the Mighty Peace?

We have an outdoor clay oven which is still used, a forestry building with taxidermy animals and a trapper’s cabin. We even have fully functioning outhouses for that pioneer bathroom experience! We also have the French Half House which is very unique. 

Does the museum ever host any events?

We host a Canada Day Breakfast on July 1st and a Heritage Day Festival on the Monday of the August long weekend.  We also offer various pioneer demonstrations in August.

What is your favourite memory at the End of Steel Museum?

Baking bread in the outdoor oven, watching the threshing crews, the pioneer cabin and participating in the Canada Day Breakfast are all great memories.
