February 16 ,17 & 18, 2024

Organized by Centre Cultural de St-Isidore
There’s nothing more magical than the “Carnaval de St-Isidore,” a treasured celebration of the Francophone culture in Northern Alberta and this year, you can expect a magical experience. The theme for the 41st annual event is “Neon,” bringing a feeling of progress and possibility to the much-anticipated annual winter event in St. Isidore taking place on February 16, 17 and 18, 2024

Carnaval festivities take place during the week for students in the region. Kindergarten to grade six Francapohone and French Immersion students are invited for a half-day of French activities and culture, including games, entertainment, dancing, singing, snow toffee and sleigh rides, and grades 10 and 11 students are invited to run for Carnaval queen or king.

Day two of the Carnaval de St-Isidore kicks off with a yummy pancake breakfast followed by live music throughout the day, a crib tournament, food booths, and tons of fun activities for all ages. Glistening snow sculptures, majestic sleigh rides, cozy bonfires, workshops, outdoor games, face painting, tobogganing, treasure hunts, and fun competitions are some examples of the fun in store for visitors this year. Not to mention getting your fill of the most delicious French Canadian food favourites like Poutine and Snow Taffy. Snow Taffy is a traditional French treat made by pouring toffee on the snow and rolling on a stick to eat – yum!

Get your dancing shoes on for the dance on Saturday night and enjoy great live music, beer gardens and wonderful company at this high-spirited community celebration that brings people in from all over the region and several Canadian provinces.

On Sunday morning the Carnaval comes to a close with Sunday Mass followed by a community breakfast, warm moments and ‘see you laters’ amongst friends.

This spectacular event takes a ton of volunteers in addition to the work of the organizing committee.

Don’t miss the Carnaval de St. Isidore; it’s an event to remember!
