The Notikewin River begins in the Clear Hills north of Worsley at 1,055 m and flows generally east and northeast, receiving tributaries such as Square, Alleman, Rambling, Lovett, and Jim Creeks. It passes through Manning, collecting Stowe, Soldar, and Hotchkiss waters, then continues northeast, joining the Meikle River and Gravina Creek before entering Notikewin Provincial Park. The river empties into the Peace River at 275 m. This is a great spot for fishing, with opportunities to catch walleye, northern pike and Goldeye.
This is a also a rockhounder’s paradise. Where you can find fossils, petrified wood and even ammonite. If you do find any of these pease take photos but don’t remove anything. Ammolite is a multi-coloured gem that is actually fossilized shell of the prehistoric creature ammonite. It has squid like tentacles coming out of a coiled shell, although sometimes the shell was conical or straight. The creature lives during the Paleozoic and Mesozoic eras 425 to 65.5 million years ago and its fossils are subtly luminescent, similar to opal until polished or treated.
