1. Camping

In Northern Sunrise County, there are several options when it comes to getting out and camping with your family and friends. The Rendez-Vous RV Park is a fully-serviced year-round park that offers 57 pull through sites and 50 back in stalls. With washrooms, shower facilities, a laundry facility on site, complimentary WIFI and a convenience store, you will have everything you need in order to enjoy your home away from home.

Located next to Cecil Thompson Park, you’ll also have access to a fishing pond, walking trails, playground and outdoor exercise equipment. The Harmon Valley Campground is another great spot to stay if you’re looking for nights until the stars and days in the sun. Each of the 17 sites boast plenty of trees for privacy and between the hiking trails, horseshoe pits and playground, you won’t have to worry about being bored during your stay. Murphy’s Flats is a day use area that is ideal for those who want to hike, fish or paddle on the river. Situated on a sandy beach, firewood is provided, as well as picnic tables and firepits, so you can enjoy a full day outdoors. Be sure to bring your binoculars and camera, as there are plenty of opportunities to spot nearby wildlife!

2. Cecil Thompson Park

This park is a local attraction that people from near and far come to appreciate!

Its main feature is a large, bouncy pillow that children absolutely love. Laughter is guaranteed on this playful accessory and it provides hours of fun for all visitors. There’s also outdoor exercise equipment for those who want to get out of the gym and into the fresh air. Walking trails, a playground, gazebo and a fishing pond are also available to guests. You can pack a lunch and spend the day or you can stay in one of the five un-serviced campsites, first come, first served. This is a wonderland for families to enjoy and is the perfect place to burn off some energy and create wonderful memories at!

3. Heart River Golf Course

This nine-hole course offers some of the most stunning views in the Peace Country!

Situated along the Heart River, you can find a welcoming clubhouse with aromas of freshly cooked meals, a bustling pro shop fully stocked with all your favourite golfing accessories and a driving range to help you perfect your swing. Surrounded by trees and wildlife, this course is perfect for both beginners and experts. Camping is available for those who want to make a weekend of it and relax in between tee times. Choose from 13 serviced sites and kick back after a long and fulfilling day on the course. This is a golf lover’s dream!

 

4. Pat’s Creek Interpretive Trail

Calling all hikers and mountain bikers, this trail is for you!

Hiking in Mighty Peace

With an easy to find trailhead, this trail offers some of the most spectacular views over 7km in the hills. Be prepared to see expansive landscapes, stunning hillsides, and if you’re lucky, some wildlife lounging along the valley. This trail is suitable for all ages and should be at the top of your list for this summer!

5. Lookouts

If you’re wanting to feast your eyes upon beautiful landscapes and river views, then you will want to check out these lookouts within the Northern Sunrise County! The Sagitawa Lookout has a remarkable view of the town of Peace River, as well as the confluence of the Peace, Smoky and Heart rivers.

This Lookout offers a picnic area and historical information for visitors to utilize and enjoy. This spot is the ideal destination for an evening drive to watch the sunset. The 12 Foot Davis Gravesite also overlooks the town of Peace River and is an amazing viewpoint for capturing mesmerizing photos. This area features pathways, beautiful landscaping, interpretive panels, picnic benches and easy parking.
