1. Downhill skiing and snowboarding
Fairview Ski Hill is the perfect place to bring your family to play this winter. This stunning ski area has 100% natural snow, 20,000ft of groomed runs and four lifts (beginner to expert). Just a short 15-minute drive southwest of Fairview, the Fairview Ski Hill has spectacular views, the best rental selection in the region and a full concession. Are you a beginner? No worries, book some lessons, and you’ll be gliding down the slopes in no time. The hill is open on weekends, and Wednesday and Thursday evenings for night skiing
2. Cross Country Skiing
Enjoy the peace and tranquillity of cross-country skiing in the Maples Day Use Area located beside Historic Dunvegan, approximately 27 km south of the Town of Fairview. Upon arriving at Historic Dunvegan, simply turn right and proceed under the bridge to this majestic riverside area. This gorgeous area has tons of ungroomed trails and room to roam and explore.
3. Skating
Grab your skates and head over to the Bluesky Outdoor Skating Rink for a refreshing outdoor skating experience. This maintained outdoor ice surface is the perfect place to take in the winter air. Bring some friends for a relaxing skate or a friendly game of shinny – you are sure to feel refreshed and recharged after time here. The rink is located on the east side of Bluesky at 801 1st avenue.
4. Curling
The Whitelaw Curling Rink is a treasured gathering place for curlers and spectators alike in the winter months. The rink has three sheets of ice, a kitchen downstairs and a bar upstairs – both open during regular operating hours. So whether you are on the ice or watching the match, you will enjoy some friendly competition and social time with local community members. Contact The Whitelaw Agriculture Society for league and rental information. Their closing bonspiel is usually held during the last weekend in March. The Whitelaw Curling Rink is located 23km east of Fairview down Highway 2.
5. Experience the northern lights
Gazing up and taking in the Aurora Borealis, fondly known as the “Northern Lights,” is an experience that most people can only dream about. But the MD of Fairview has plenty of dark sky viewing areas to enjoy the northern lights on a clear winter’s night. No matter how many times they’ve done their mystical dance across the sky, their magic never ceases to amaze viewers.
