Bonanza Ag Society 

With a group of dedicated community members, the Bonanza Ag Society is committed to creating local events and opportunities for residents in their area. This active society runs the Bonanza Bowling Centre, which is open from October to March each year, where they host plenty of private rentals, birthday parties, league bowling and after school bowling. On top of that, this society has a community hall that they frequently rent out for weddings, reunions, banquets, parties, workshops, and so much more. 

This Ag Society is also responsible for hosting the annual Bonanza Fair and Mud Bog, which is a spectacular two-day event that draws people from all over the region. With a focus on agriculture and community involvement, the Bonanza and District Ag Society is an incredible asset to their local residents. 

The Fourth Creek Community Association maintains this multiuse area. The Fourth Creek Community Hall is a new beautifully designed venue available for rent for any event or celebration. Ten campsites are nearby offering power, camp tables, firepits and plenty of firewood. Campers can access a bathroom and a shower room located in the hall. A large recreation area with a playground is adjacent providing visitors with a spacious area for all sorts of fun activities.  The community association also hosts several annual events such as dances, suppers and barbeques to bring friends and neighbors together.

The Rim Rock Formations, south of Bay Tree, provide stunning views of the County from a ridge that was once the mouth of a trench under the ocean. Nestled deep in the forest, you can find prehistoric fossils alongside the iconic views.

Getting to the Rim Rocks

From BC: The Rim Rocks can be found by heading east on Township Road 784 from Highway 49, just over the BC border. Drive approximately 2 km, before turning left on Range Road 134. Continue on the road for approximately 6 km until the road curves to the left and becomes an oilfield road. Stay on this route, keeping to the left at the two major forks in the road. The trailhead begins at the cutline where the road used to end.

The forested path is easy to follow and, after approximately 3 km, you should see a slightly smaller path heading off to the left. Follow this for around 2 minutes to reach the Rim Rocks.

Load up your favorite sled or toboggan and head out to the Saddle Hills County Slopes toboggan hill. This is one of the Peace region’s best toboggan hills for a fast-paced, cold-weather adventure! Nothing says winter fun like gliding through a fresh blanket of pristine snow while feeling the fresh air nip at your cheeks as you race down the hill. This family friendly activity is the perfect way to get outside and enjoy the sunny winter days of the Mighty Peace! This sliding hill is located right behind the new Savanna water treatment plant and truck fill just north of Highway 681 approximately 2.5 km east of the Savanna School.  From Spirit River head west on Highway 49 for 27 km then north on Highway 725 for 23 km and then west on Highway 681 for 9 km. Looking for a thrilling aquatic experience? Discover the Savanna Splash Park at the Savanna Recreational Complex located northwest of Spirit River. To access this facility, take Highway 49 west of Spirit River for 27 km, turn north on Highway 725 and travel for 23 km then turn west on Highway 681 and travel 13 km to the recreation complex.  Engage in some active and imaginative play in the crystal clear waters of this professionally designed and newly installed water park. Dive into the world of endless sprays, splashes and joyful laughter as you explore this popular Saddle Hills County facility – open during the warm summer months of the Mighty Peace.

The Shell True North pond is stocked annually with brook trout to create recreational opportunities for visitors and residents alike. This day use site is located approximately 30 km west of Spirit River on Highway 49 and then at TWP Rd. 791 continue to travel north on Highway 49 for approximately 400 m then turn west into the approach and immediately north to the pond.  After parking near the eastern shore of the lake, the area can be accessed by foot. No open fires please.  Watch closely for many types of wildlife that are abundant in this area. Black bear, coyotes, elk, moose, deer and a multitude of birds call this beautiful area home.
