72 Hours in the Mighty Peace Region – Itinerary Ideas

If you don’t have a ton of time to spend in the Mighty Peace Region in northwest Alberta, use Edmonton blogger Linda Hoang’s itinerary suggestions to make the most of your time! (and be sure to plan a longer return visit!)

Day 1 - Arrive

If coming from Edmonton, it’s approximately a 5-hour drive)

Food & Drink:

Grab burgers from What the Chuck Burgerhouse and beers from Peace River Brewing in Peace River! Order tip: don’t sleep on the Flight of Fries at What the Chuck! 

Sights:

Stop at Riverfront Park for beautiful Peace River views and to visit the 12-Foot Davis Statue (he’s a local legend). You can also check out a few Downtown Murals and public art while you’re walking around downtown.


Check-in:

Consider staying at a glamping dome or cottage at Rendez-Vous RV Park or out at The Wild Rose Guest House

Day 2 - A Full Day to Explore!

Choose from one of the following itinerary suggestions

If you want to stay in town:

Breakfast:

Stop into J’s Java Domain in Downtown Peace River. Get an ‘As You Like It’ build your own sandwich and some delicious cookies or blondies. Everything is so fresh!

Adventure:

Go on a half day Peace River Adventures Jet Boat Tour and experience the region by water! This is super scenic.


Dinner:

Hit the patio of Board ‘n’ Barrel and order a bunch of bites to share! This restaurant is well-known for their charcuterie and flavour-forward menu that changes seasonally. 90% of everything you find on the menu is also made in-house.

Breakfast:

Pop in for some drinks and pastries from The Old Bistro in Fairview

Adventure:

Strawberry U-Pick at the very cute Dunvegan Market Gardens (this activity is great for all ages!). Explore Historic Dunvegan Provincial Park including the Dunvegan Suspension Bridge 


Dinner:

Order up a flight, some pretzels and pizza from the popular Heilan House in Fairview

Day 3 - Depart

Breakfast:

Do a half eggs bunny with pancakes or waffles from the Nampa Sunrise Cafe and take in all the bright, yellow sunflowers, plants and green decor here.

Stops:

Stop at Sagitawa Lookout for even more stunning views of the Mighty Peace Region valley on your way out to breakfast.


Experiences:

Book a tour at local apiary Simoneau Honey Buzziness and get up real close and personal with the hives. You’ll be buzzing after the visit! 

Dive into the history of Nampa & District at the local Nampa Museum (they share a building with the Nampa Sunrise Cafe so it makes sense to visit both!)

Check out the Kimiwan Lake Bird Walk in Mclennan. How many birds will you spot? Our favourite was the Ruddy Duck

Those are just a few ideas for where to eat, stay, and things to do when you’re visiting the region, comprised of more than a dozen towns, counties, villages, hamlets and municipal districts, set in and around the stunning Peace River Valley with its endless yellow canola fields, stretches of forest, and rolling prairies.
