The Peace River Summer Do Not Miss List

Choose the Mighty Peace

Jet Boat Championships & River Days
Start with one of the most exciting weekends in all of Alberta — the Jet Boat Championships and River Days. Every summer, Peace River plays host to this action-packed event that draws jet boat racing teams from across Canada, the United States, Mexico, and even New Zealand. These boats race at speeds up to 160MPH. It’s considered the best spectator spot on the entire international circuit. The racing is fast, loud, and thrilling — and all the action happens just steps from downtown at Riverfront Park. But the energy doesn’t stop there. River Days partners with the Jet Boat Championships to create an epic, three-day celebration that includes a kick-off Show & Shine where fans can meet the race teams and check out the boats up close. Friday night brings family activities, live music, dancing, and a beer garden buzzing with excitement. Saturday is full-on racing combined with family-friendly fun like farmers markets, bouncy castles, activities, and the wildly popular “Mining for Money.” Sunday keeps the excitement rolling with more racing and a special Superhero and Princess Party for the kids. It’s the biggest event of the year — and a true showcase of what makes Peace River so amazing.

Lower West Peace Boat Launch
At the heart of town lies the Lower West Peace Boat Launch — a beloved local gathering place and the go-to spot for swimming, fishing, and launching your own river adventures. The floating dock is a popular place to cool off during hot summer days, and with a gentle current and shallow shores, it’s one of the safest places in town for families to take a dip. You’ll often find locals enjoying a picnic here, casting a line, or simply soaking in the view. It’s both a functional launch site and a peaceful retreat.

Misery Mountain
Adventure doesn’t stop at the water’s edge. Misery Mountain offers some of the best hiking and biking trails in the entire region. Winding through forested hillsides and opening up to sweeping river valley views, the trails here are rich with flora, wildlife, and photo-worthy moments. At the top, you’ll be rewarded with one of the most iconic scenes in the North — the confluence of the Peace and Smoky Rivers stretching out below you. This is a must-see for any visitor and a favourite among locals for a reason.

Peace River Bridge Pathway

And finally, don’t leave town without walking across the Peace River Bridge Pathway. Whether you’re walking, jogging, or just taking in the view, this bridge offers a stunning vantage point of the town, the river, and the valley that surrounds it. Walk beneath the bridge for a dramatic photo op or rest along the way on one of the benches built for soaking in the scenery. When the sun goes down, the bridge lights up, casting a soft glow over the water — the perfect way to end your day in Peace River.

The Town of Peace River isn’t just a stop — it’s a destination. It’s where adventure, culture, history, and nature meet. It’s where visitors become part of the community, even if just for a weekend. And it’s where the spirit of Northwestern Alberta comes alive.
