Longer days and warmer weather have anglers eager to escape with their families and get lines in the water. Here are our some of our must-see fishing destinations in the Mighty Peace.
Figure 8 Lake
This Lake may seem small – but it certainly is mighty! Figure 8 Lake is a favourite for residents and visitors because it offers Great Rainbow trout fishing from the dock or by boat. The vibe of this little slice of heaven is peaceful, rustic, relaxed, and the scenery is stunning. Fish from the dock or on your electric boat or canoe. There is also a playground, fire pits, firewood, and outhouses. Located eight km north of Grimshaw, then 20 km west on Highway 737.
Notikewin Provincial Park
This gorgeous provincial park lies on the confluence of the Peace and Notikewin Rivers and is home to plenty of freshwater fish species, including Walleye, Perch and Northern Pike. Enjoy fishing from shore or hand launch your boat, canoe or kayak at the open area along the shoreline. The park has some pretty amazing views and also has hiking trails, 19 camping sites and a day-use area. Located 35 km north of Manning on Hwy 35 and 30 km east on Highway 692.
Cecil Thompson Park
Pack up your fishing gear and head to Cecil Thompson Park to try your luck catching some Rainbow and Tiger Trout. This wonderful pond has a dock and bridge for your fishing pleasure, and it is the perfect place to have a picnic. The park also has a bouncy pillow, outdoor exercise equipment, a beautiful gazebo, unserviced camping lots and a walking bridge. The park is located 10 km south on Highway 2 towards Nampa from Peace River.
Running Lake
Bring your grill and be prepared to cook us some delicious Rainbow or Brook Trout after a day of fishing at Running Lake. Cast your line from the pier or your non-motorized boat on this calm and clear 28.9-hectare Lake. They also have a fish cleaning station, boat launch area, 20 unserviced treed camping sites, hiking trails, fire pits, picnic tables and outdoor toilets. Located 8 km east and 22 km north of Worsley.
Cummings Lake Recreation Area
Cummings Lake is a hidden gem on the outskirts of Fairview, offering anglers catch and release fishing in the summer months and in the fall, they can expect to grill up some delicious Rainbow Trout. You can throw in your line from your non-motorized boat or the shore while taking in the peaceful surroundings. This quiet and cozy recreation area also has camping sites, horseshoe pits, a playground and a walking trail.
Stoney Lake
You will feel like you are away from it all at this massive and remote 233.1 hectare lake. Surrounded by untouched beauty, cast your line from the pier or your non-motorized boat and try your luck catching a Yellow Perch, Rainbow Trout or Brook Trout. Stoney Lake also has a boat launch and is a user-maintained campground with firepits and picnic tables. Located 20 km north of Hines Creek.
Wilderness Park
This hidden gem tucked away between Peace River and Grimshaw is a scenic and peaceful place to throw in your hook. This man-made and stocked pond is nestled in a lush, treed area and is home to Rainbow Trout and Grayling. They also have a great day-use area perfect for a picnic, fire pits, and outhouses, and you can quickly launch your kayak or paddleboard from one of the docks.
Kimiwan Lake Municipal Campground
You don’t have to go far to enjoy your next fishing experience! Located conveniently within the McLennan town limits, the pond at the Kimiwan Lake Municipal Campground is a great place to drop your line for some Rainbow Trout fishing. Cook your catch over an open fire – they have a shelter with a cookstove, firepits, and firewood in their day-use area.
Haig Lake
Haig Lake is a popular fishing and camping destination for locals and travellers. Situated in a densely forested area, the peace and tranquillity experienced here are second to none. They offer eight unserviced camping sites, firepits, picnic tables, a hiking trail, and plenty of room for quadding. Haig Lake is known for a great day of fishing with pickerel, whitefish and jackfish commonly caught in this beautiful 881.8ha lake. If you don’t feel like fishing, you can enjoy the day on your motorized boat, canoe, paddleboard or kayak. Located 1.5 hours northeast of Peace River.

Murphy’s Flats
This gorgeous newly developed area runs alongside the Smoky River where Mountain Whitefish are most commonly caught. Whether by boat or the sore, this place is perfect for fishing! There are plenty of sandy and rocky beach areas along the shore with awe-inspiring views of the river valley and you can easily launch your canoe or kayak. To access this area from Highway 744 near Marie Reine, turn west onto TWP RD 822, then turn left on RGE RD 222.5 and turn right onto 821.5 or alternately turn off Highway 744 west onto TWP RD 820, then turn right on RGE RD 222 and turn right.
