This cozy full-service campsite and day-use area in the Village of Girouxville is a great place to pitch your tent or pull in the RV for a weekend while exploring this great little village. They have power hook-ups, treated tap water, horseshoe pits, picnic tables, fire pits and outdoor washrooms. The campground is open May to September (depending on the weather) with a camping fee of $20 per night (self-register). Located at 4820-52nd Avenue in Girouxville, and campers can use the dumping station at the Village Office.

Gather your friends and family, and take your pick of activities to be enjoyed at this fantastic outdoor multi-purpose facility. Activities such as pickle ball, basketball, rollerblading, floor, ball hockey and skateboarding are commonly played and enjoyed here by all ages. Located at 5204-52 Avenue in Girouxville.

The Girouxville Playground is a wonderful place to gather and play, with gorgeous green space and lots to explore and do. The littles will have hours of fun on the playground equipment, and for the soccer lovers out there, be sure to bring a ball; they’ve got soccer nets for your next match. Play or rest; they’ve got plenty of picnic tables and benches to sit and enjoy the day plus, they have a gazebo, a great place for a summertime picnic or to catch some shade. The playground is located at 5031-50th street.

Enjoy a fresh outdoor skate at the Girouxville Outdoor Rink this winter. They’ve got a fantastic facility on the west side of Girouxville that is open seven days per week with a heated change room for visitors. So gather up the twirlers and shinny players in life for a fun day on this natural outdoor rink, and why not bring a portable BBQ and end the day with a winter picnic!

Smoky Lanes Bowling Alley offers 5 pin bowling and a restaurant to keep players fed and happy. Ideal for the entire family, this entertaining pitstop is a great way to blow off some steam and enjoy quality time with your favourite people.

The Creek Campground: A Peaceful Retreat in Northern Alberta

If you are looking for a beautiful and relaxing place to camp in Northern Alberta, you definitely will want to check out The Creek Campground. Located about 11 km north of Grimshaw, this private campground offers a variety of sites and amenities for tent and RV campers. With 41 sites available, including many with water and electrical hookups, all  with fire rings and picnic tables you are sure to find the perfect site for your stay. The campground also has a dump station, firewood, group sites, flush restrooms and showers. After you have set up your site, you can enjoy the natural scenery of the wildlife, or have fun with the recreational facilities such as horseshoes, volleyball and a walking trail to keep you moving.

The Creek Campground is a place where you can relax and enjoy nature at its finest. The campground is committed to providing a clean and safe environment for all their guests. From this campground, you can easily access the many attractions of the Peace River region. You can enjoy the beach, the boat launch and the playground at Queen Elizabeth Provincial Park. You can also learn about the history and culture of the area at the Lac Cardinal Pioneer Village Museum, which has historic buildings and artifacts. If you love golfing, you can play at the Mighty Peace Golf Club, which has a scenic 18- hole course with a pro shop and a restaurant. The campground is open seasonally from May to October, and you can make reservations online or by phone. The campground has a friendly and family-oriented atmosphere, and enforces quiet hours between 11 pm and 7 am.

Dunvegan Market Gardens: A Fresh and Fun Destination in Northern Alberta

Located only 26km south of the Town of Fairview and right next to Dunvegan Provincial Park just off Highway 2, this family-owned business has been serving the area since 1953. This beautifully landscaped location runs along the north shore of the mighty Peace River and is open spring through fall, offering locally made items, giftware and much more. Find a wide variety of bedding plants in the spring and later in the season bring the family and enjoy picking your own strawberries and raspberries. Through the summer, corn and other vegetables are also available fresh from the garden. Dunvegan Gardens is a scenic riverside stroll away from the Dunvegan Provincial Park Campground, Historic Dunvegan and The Maples day use area. Spring Lake Campground is one of the most popular sites in Saddle Hills County, attracting visitors from all over North America. It is the number one stop for fishing in the county, as the lake is stocked with rainbow and brook trout seasonally. You can also enjoy paddle boarding, kayaking, hiking, and skiing at this campground.

Spring Lake Campground is accessible, from Alberta Highway 59, Go North on Range Road 110 for 4 miles (6 km), Go East on Township Road 750 for 1/2 Mile (800m), Go North on Range Road 105 for 3.5 miles (5.5 km), Go West on Spring Lake Road for 2 miles (3km), Campground on North Side of the road. Note: The last 3.5 miles to the Campsite, are on Oilfield roads and may be rough and/or muddy in places.

Dixonville – A Hidden Gem in the County of Northern Lights

The Dixonville L.IF.E. Agricultural Society is a group of volunteers who work towards providing their community with educational opportunities, sports, recreational facilities and entertainment. The friendly hamlet of Dixonville is located in the County of Northern Lights along the Mackenzie Highway #35, approximately 43km north of Grimshaw.

Dixonville is a great place to host a family reunion, wedding, or any event. This Ag Society maintains several great venues that are perfect for any function. The Dixonville Community Hall is an excellent venue for weddings, reunions, banquets, sports and community functions. This is a family friendly site with a modern playground right next door. The Shady Lane Campground – located in the southwest corner of Dixonville, has 22 sites, firepits, horseshoes pits, and some sites offering electrical hookups. The L.I.F.E. Ag Society also maintains an outdoor riding arena, Community Forest Walking Trails and assists with the operation of the Golden Age Inn. Sports facilities operated by the Ag Society include two baseball diamonds, a curling rink, and an outdoor skating rink.

This welcoming community hosts many events over the year including bonspiels, community suppers, Easter egg hunt and works in conjunction with the local school and community library to offer fun educational events. Winter doesn’t slow down this community, there are lots of reasons to visit during the colder months and check out the Christmas Craft and Bake Sale, Family Day Dog Sledding, and much more.

Located at 9702 98 Street in the Town of Peace River, Sagitawa Friendship Centre is a place where all people are welcome. Using Indigenous knowledge as a foundation, Sagitawa Friendship Society offers a warm welcoming place for visitors as well as a variety of programming and services for the community. These programs range from prenatal care to child and youth services to elder support and everything in between. The Friendship Centre also hosts a variety of community events throughout the year, runs a youth employment program out of Golf World – Peace River Mini Golf, and showcases Indigenous art and crafts available to purchase in their Hide n’ Seek Handicraft Store.

Located at 9803 101 Ave, this imaginative 18-hole mini golf course is the perfect place to beat the heat this summer! Open from May to September, Golf World hosts fun, family friendly events throughout the summer, and offers a variety of delicious hand scooped ice creams for purchase. A refreshing dip in the Falher outdoor swimming pool is a great way to enjoy the long, warm summer days of the Mighty Peace region. Located at #129 Central Avenue S.E. in the friendly town of Falher, this pool opens the May long weekend and operates until about the third week in August. This fresh air facility provides excellent bi-lingual swimming lessons and recreational activities for the enjoyment of young and old. The pool is home to the Smoky River Manatees Swim Club, an excellent way for youth to keep fit, improve swimming skills and have fun. Pool rentals are available for birthday parties and other functions. Life is cool by the pool!

What better way to enjoy one of the Peace Country’s long summer days than a dip in the Grimshaw outdoor pool! This pool is 25m long by 110m wide and offers lots of space foreveryone to enjoy the water. Depth runs from 3m in the deep end to .9m in the shallow end so everyone from beginners to seasoned lane swimmers can swim at their own comfort level. During scheduled lane swim times there are 5 lanes available, each 2.13m wide. The Grimshaw Gators Swim Club operates out of this facility and holds a swim meet each summer. Set up a comfortable spot on the available bleachers to cheer on your favorite swimmer! This pool opens the May long weekend and is open for swimmers until about the 3rd week of August. Looking for a great place to play some court sports? Falher has a handy space available for activities like pickle ball and basket ball. This multi-season facility is a curling rink during winter months and then is transformed with the installation of a removable gym floor to a fieldhouse for the summer. Available for use from April 1^st to the end of September this is a great space to keep fit and have fun!
