All MD Smoky River

Did you know that Falher is home to the world’s largest bee statue? This stunning structure was created in 1990 by a local welder, Richard Ethier and sits proudly on display 20 feet in the air in the heart of downtown Falher. Be sure to take a selfie with the bee and read up on the historical information displayed on site.

Get there: Falher is located 37 km north of Nampa on Highway 2. 

The kids will be happy for hours at the Honey Capital Park! This bee themed fun haven for kids has a water splash park (sponsored by Richardson), a 27-foot slide, a four-story beehive structure to play on, a toddler park, and a soccer net. It’s perfect for a playdate, picnic or family get-together.

Bundle up, pack a picnic and get ready to experience an outdoor skate at the Jean Cote outdoor rink this winter. The Peace region is known for sunny winter days, offering the perfect setting for skaters and hockey enthusiasts to enjoy some active fun outside. The friendly community of Jean Cote can be found in the MD of Smoky River, approximately 45 km south of the Town of Peace River on Highway 744 and 2 km east on Township Rd 800.

The Municipal District of Smoky River is home to some of these fascinating and beautiful rock formations. Known as hoodoos, these formations tower high in the sky, and provide fantastic photo opportunities. The geological explanation for hoodoos is that they are the product of millions of years of erosion—in which a lower layer of soft rock wears away, leaving a top-heavy layer of harder rock protruding above the surrounding landscape. However, Alberta’s hoodoo legends are somewhat more entertaining, telling of ancient travellers witnessing the hoodoos reveal themselves to be wizards, offering a helping hand to lost explorers by pointing them in the right direction. These amazing wonders of nature are very remote and can be accessed only by helicopter or viewed from the Smoky River by river boat. Looking for some of the best views of the Little Smoky River valley? Breathtaking scenery abounds for visitors travelling down into the valley to the Blue Bridge campground. No wonder so many locals choose this scenic spot for their special occasion photoshoots! Explorers can also enjoy rustic camping, access to the river as well as some great OHV and sled trails here. The Blue Bridge campground can be reached from the Donnelly corner by travelling west on Highway 49 for approximately 13km and then turning south on Highway 744 and travelling approximately 17km to the campground area near the bridge.
