Some of the most stunning scenery on the planet can be seen from the top of the Peace River Banks.   An excellent example of this is the Carters Camp area.  As visitors descend down into the river valley, they can enjoy the views of the river below and the hills around them.  Arriving into the Carters Camp area which is located adjacent the river, visitors will most likely stop and admire the view before them!  There are two separate camping areas here.  The boat launch area is just before the main camping area. Both campgrounds are well equipped with camp kitchens, outhouses, fire pits, picnic tables and playgrounds.  Try your luck at a game of horseshoes and when you’re ready to relax, there’s lots of fire wood available for a long enjoyable campfire in the evening! Many of the campsites offer a river view that will take your breath away.   The Carters Camp campground area is where the Montagneuse River empties into the Peace River.  This makes for many interesting areas to hike and explore.  Campers can enjoy playing in the water and also try their hand at fishing!  Keep your eyes open for wildlife along the river and high on the banks.  

This area is named for Art and Anna Carter who were pioneers of the area and settled near the mouth of the Montagneuse River in 1917.  A monument to this adventurous couple can be seen along the road into the campsite.

Community Park and Campground, the bouncy pillow at Cecil Thompson Park has fast become a landmark in the community of Northern Sunrise County. In addition to the bouncy pillow the park features; challenging outdoor exercise equipment, a wonderful fishing pond, a beautiful gazebo and a walking bridge. This camping and recreation area, is a true hidden gem just north of the Town of Fairview.  This beautiful recreation area is quiet and cozy, and features a small lake as well as group and individual camping spots tucked into a lush forested area.  Keep everyone entertained with a variety of activities available in the area.  Canoe, kayak or paddle board on the lake and watch for the many species of birds that also enjoy the water!   Walk, jog or run on the 11km of trails that connect the area with the Town of Fairview as well as the Fairview Golf Course. Watch for wildlife that is often spotted near the trail!  There are horse shoe pits and a play ground available for visitors as well.  During your stay take a stroll over to the Fairview Pioneer Museum that is adjacent to the campground and learn about the early settlers of the area.   The area also features ball diamonds and soccer fields.  After a busy day of fun, relax around a cozy campfire and enjoy a spectacular Peace Country sunset!

Be sure to stop in at the Historic Dunvegan interpretive centre that is right next door. Explore the region’s history and take a guided tour of the historic buildings still standing in their original spots!

Photo opportunities abound in this beautiful area. This is a great spot to view Dunvegan bridge which is Alberta’s longest vehicle suspension bridge! The Maples Day Use area can be found a short hike up river and offers a beautiful spot for picnickers. The South side of the river has a boat launch for boaters wanting to explore the river. The park is open May 1st to October 15th.

Fairview Golf Club is a beautiful 9 hole golf course located at the north entrance of the Town of Fairview on Highway 732. The golf course has tree-lined fairways, is kept immaculately and considered a must play in the Mighty Peace. There is a fully licensed restaurant and lounge with a large veranda with tables and a beautiful vista of the golf course.

Figure Eight Lake Provincial Recreation Area is located 40 kilometers northwest of Peace River on Highway 737 in the County of Northern Lights. Figure Eight Lake takes its name from the shape it had before 1970 when the water level was low, in these earlier days the lake had two basins and resembled a figure eight.

This golf course is a challenging nine hole course located on the scenic Heart River just East of Nampa. Features a driving range, pro shop and clubhouse. There is one of the best patios in the Mighty Peace overlooking the beautiful golf course’s lush greens and majestic scenery.

The Heart River Golf Course offers a small but beautiful Lion’s campground just below the first tee box. This golf course is a challenging nine-hole course located on the scenic Heart River just East of Nampa. Warm up on the driving range, check out the pro shop and enjoy the fully licensed clubhouse and restaurant. Heart River Golf Course offers one of the best patios in the Mighty Peace overlooking the beautiful and lush golf course as well as the majestic Heart River. A perfect place to stay on tournament weekends, or just to relax with friends. The Hines Creek Golf Course is truly a hidden gem in the Peace Country! Located 6 km south of Hines Creek just off of Highway 64, this family-friendly course is a short and scenic drive from both Grande Prairie and Peace River.

Enjoy an affordable and relaxing golf experience on this beautifully treed course in the spectacular Clear Hills County. This is the second oldest course in Northern Alberta and a wagon wheel monument on the course commemorates the Fort Saint John Wagon Trail which ran through the area many years ago.

Designed for maximum enjoyment regardless of your golfing abilities, this course welcomes beginners and offers a challenge for the low handicapper. The Hines Creek meanders through the course coming into play on five holes offering visitors some stunning views and challenging shots!

Choose your own beautiful and cozy site at the Hines Creek Golf Course campground. Relax to the sound of the nearby Hines Creek and enjoy the scent of evergreens in this uncrowded area of the Mighty Peace Region. Enjoy an easily accessible and relaxed golf experience on this well-treed course in beautiful Clear Hills County. Finish up your round with a beverage on the back patio of the new clubhouse and watch the putting action on the ninth green!

Need a break from meal prep? Don’t worry, the clubhouse restaurant offers a full menu and a licensed bar. Bring your OHV! There is great access to the Sand Lake Trail System in this area, offering more activities for visitors of all ages. Firepits and tables are also available.

Leddy Lake is a quiet and peaceful camping area located 24km northwest of Peace River on Highway 743, near Weberville.  Campers can expect very private sites with lots of fire wood available.  Electrical hookups, kitchen shelters and water are available to campers.  Launch your boat and enjoy beautiful sunsets and viewing the many birds and animals living in the area.  While there is no fishing, visitors can enjoy horseshoes, hiking, canoeing and kayaking.  Families visiting here can enjoy a great park for kids as well as a nice sandy area for hours of entertainment.  

In the winter the fun doesn’t stop. Enjoy a sparkling and crisp winter’s day on a sled trail that starts with a scenic loop at Leddy Lake and runs 40km north to the area of Driftwood Lake near Deadwood.
