A Truly Authentic Mongolian Experience in the Heart of Northern Alberta

Step into a world where tradition meets tranquility at Yurt Beautiful, a handcrafted Mongolian yurt nestled in the peaceful boreal forest just 15 minutes north of Grimshaw, Alberta. This one-of-a-kind stay offers guests the rare opportunity to sleep in an authentic yurt built using centuries-old techniques by Mongolian nomadic tribes.

Every detail of Yurt Beautiful reflects this cultural heritage—camel hide connects the lattice walls, horsehair ropes hold the yurt’s shape, and wool from sheep insulates the cozy interior. The hand-painted woodwork, lovingly created by the women of the tribe, includes the toono (the crown of the yurt), the huns (roof poles), and the intricately designed doors.

This 20-foot yurt is both rustic and comfortable, equipped with a queen bed and a trundle daybed, perfect for up to four guests. Inside, you’ll find a dining table, solar-powered LED lighting, and a charging port for your phone. The yurt is perched on a forested platform with a wraparound deck and a private walkway to the washroom.

Wake up to a homemade breakfast, included for two guests with your stay. With advanced notice, you can also enjoy lunch and dinner, thoughtfully prepared to accommodate dietary preferences and allergies—including vegetarian options.

While there are no cooking facilities on-site, Yurt Beautiful invites you to relax, unplug, and connect with nature. Directly across the road is the Lac Cardinal Point Uplands Conservation Area, a 623-acre expanse of uplands, wetlands, and riparian zones teeming with wildlife—from moose and deer to black bears and waterfowl. If you’re lucky, you might even stumble upon a patch of wild strawberries in the summer months.

Harmon Valley Park offers an incredible night sky with virtually no light pollution. If you are a star gazer this is an amazing campground with the possibility of experiencing the northern lights. This campground features 17 unserviced campsites, free fire wood, pump water, pit toilets, hiking trails, children’s playground, picnic shelter, cook shack, and horseshoe pits. This campground offers a fully treed setting offering privacy for your vacation. Don’t worry about breaking the bank because this beautiful campground is only $10/night.

Warm your hands around a crackling campfire, sit back, relax and enjoy the privacy of your cozy campsite alongside the mighty Peace River! Dunvegan Provincial Park offers 65 powered sites with fire pits and picnic tables. Visitors will find firewood available, outdoor toilets, tap water and a sewage disposal area. This is a great spot to keep the entire family active with hiking/biking trails, fishing, canoeing and a playground. If you’re looking for something more relaxing – take a stroll down the scenic river side pathways to nearby Dunvegan Gardens for some shopping, mini golf and ice cream! Be sure to stop in at the Historic Dunvegan interpretive centre that is right next door. Explore the region’s history and take a guided tour of the historic buildings still standing in their original spots!

Photo opportunities abound in this beautiful area. This is a great spot to view Dunvegan bridge which is Alberta’s longest vehicle suspension bridge! The Maples Day Use area can be found a short hike up river and offers a beautiful spot for picnickers. The South side of the river has a boat launch for boaters wanting to explore the river. The park is open May 1st to October 15th.

Dunvegan Provincial Park is located 26km South of Fairview.

If you are looking for a home away from home or a quick overnight stay in Peace River, the Western Budget Motel is an excellent choice for you.

Figure Eight Lake Provincial Recreation Area is located 40 kilometers northwest of Peace River on Highway 737 in the County of Northern Lights. Figure Eight Lake takes its name from the shape it had before 1970 when the water level was low, in these earlier days the lake had two basins and resembled a figure eight.

Tucked along the banks of the Peace River in the MD of Peace, Strong Creek Campground is a year-round escape for outdoor lovers. Located just 8 km south of Peace River on the scenic Shaftesbury Trail, this rustic campground offers an affordable stay at only $20 per night. Enjoy the convenience of washrooms, potable water, and a sheltered kitchen while still feeling close to nature.

In summer, spend your days soaking up the sun, paddling, or casting a line in the Peace River—just a short stroll from your campsite. The park also features picnic tables, a playground for the kids, and hiking trails that wind through the area’s natural beauty.

When winter arrives, Strong Creek transforms into a snowy retreat perfect for snowshoeing and crisp winter hikes. The playground remains a family favourite year-round, and firepits invite you to gather for cozy outdoor picnics.

Searching for a back to nature experience?

Head out to the Wilderness Park located approximately 11km west of Peace River; the path into the area is as beautiful as the park itself! This day use area has picnic tables, fire pits, outhouses and man-made ponds to enjoy! Swimming is not allowed but fishing enthusiasts bring your fishing rods as the ponds are stocked with rainbow trout and grayling! There are docks to fish from and to launch your canoe, kayak or paddle board. Hiking trails abound in the area, part of which include the Trans Canada Trail! Bring your binoculars and enjoy some bird watching, this area is abundant with wildlife. A crackling campfire is the perfect end to a day of fun at Wilderness Park! Please reduce visitor’s impact on the park by taking your garbage home with you. Park closes at 11pm.

This camping and recreation area, is a true hidden gem just north of the Town of Fairview.  This beautiful recreation area is quiet and cozy, and features a small lake as well as group and individual camping spots tucked into a lush forested area.  Keep everyone entertained with a variety of activities available in the area.  Canoe, kayak or paddle board on the lake and watch for the many species of birds that also enjoy the water!   Walk, jog or run on the 11km of trails that connect the area with the Town of Fairview as well as the Fairview Golf Course. Watch for wildlife that is often spotted near the trail!  There are horse shoe pits and a play ground available for visitors as well.  During your stay take a stroll over to the Fairview Pioneer Museum that is adjacent to the campground and learn about the early settlers of the area.   The area also features ball diamonds and soccer fields.  After a busy day of fun, relax around a cozy campfire and enjoy a spectacular Peace Country sunset!

Fairview Bee Pollinator Garden

This recently renovated inn and suites is conveniently located on Highway 2 in Fairview.

Located just 23 km east and 22 km south of Fairview along Highway 2, this scenic recreation area on the Peace River offers free camping, fresh water, hiking trails, a playground, and great fishing opportunities.

Please note: Access to the campground is via a steep dirt road, which can be challenging after rainfall.

A gorgeous view of the sunset across George Lake can be enjoyed from one of the cozy campsites nestled lake side. Arrive early to secure a site with a view of the water! Electrical hookups, outhouses, showers and a kitchen shelter are on offer for visitors’ enjoyment. All ages can enjoy the lake, playground, horseshoe pits and hiking trails. Bring your paddle board, canoe or kayak and relax on the quiet waters of the lake while watching out for the many species of birds and animals that live in the area. Boaters can launch near the campground to try out some waterskiing and other water sports!

George Lake Music Festival takes place here each year. This event attracts many visitors who enjoy a weekend of camping and great live music!

Lake views can be enjoyed by all visitors to this campground tucked into the tree line along the shore of Lac Cardinal. Water enthusiasts can enjoy swimming, windsurfing, paddle boarding, canoeing and kayaking. Boaters can use the boat launch to gain access to the lake, so water skiing, tubing and sailing are fun options!

Visitors can play some beach volleyball, horseshoes or just relax on the beach. Over 140 species of birds and other wildlife have been spotted here so keep your eyes open while hiking and mountain biking on the shore line and forest trails! After a day of enjoying all these activities, kick back and relax in one of 56 camp sites available. 42 of these sites offer power and all offer fire pits and picnic tables. To make your stay more convenient potable water, washrooms and a dump station are available on site.

Don’t forget! There’s no better way to enjoy a sparkling winter day than snowshoeing or cross country skiing the 4.5km of ungroomed trails in the park!

It can be difficult to stay focused on the game when your surroundings are so stunning, but the Heart River Golf Course offers plenty of challenging play to keep you into the game. This golf course is a challenging nine hole course located on the scenic Heart River just East of Nampa. Features a driving range, pro shop and clubhouse. There is one of the best patios in the Mighty Peace overlooking the beautiful golf course’s lush greens and majestic scenery.

Heart River Golf Course Campground

The Heart River Golf Course offers a small but beautiful Lion’s campground just below the first tee box. This golf course is a challenging nine-hole course located on the scenic Heart River just East of Nampa. Warm up on the driving range, check out the pro shop and enjoy the fully licensed clubhouse and restaurant. Heart River Golf Course offers one of the best patios in the Mighty Peace overlooking the beautiful and lush golf course as well as the majestic Heart River. A perfect place to stay on tournament weekends, or just to relax with friends. Surrounded by trees and wildlife, their campground makes a wonderful and private retreat. Choose from 13 serviced lots, firepits and fire wood included! • Campground Fees: Includes water and power:  $25 per day / $150 per week
• Power Sites: We have 13 serviced lots with power, water, fire pits, and picnic tables. There is a wood bin close by, and firewood is included. All of the sites are cozily nestled into the trees to maximize privacy for our campers.

Day Use
The location adjacent to the campground is the perfect spot for a family reunion, staff function, or a get-together with friends. There is a rental fee of $40.00 to rent the camp kitchen.

The Hines Creek Golf Course is truly a hidden gem in the Peace Country! Located 6 km south of Hines Creek just off of Highway 64, this family-friendly course is a short and scenic drive from both Grande Prairie and Peace River.

Enjoy an affordable and relaxing golf experience on this beautifully treed course in the spectacular Clear Hills County. This is the second oldest course in Northern Alberta and a wagon wheel monument on the course commemorates the Fort Saint John Wagon Trail which ran through the area many years ago.

Designed for maximum enjoyment regardless of your golfing abilities, this course welcomes beginners and offers a challenge for the low handicapper. The Hines Creek meanders through the course coming into play on five holes offering visitors some stunning views and challenging shots!

Eleven well-placed holes, grass greens and a full irrigation system ensure a quality experience every time. Relax with a beverage on the back patio of the new clubhouse and watch the putting action on the ninth green!  The clubhouse restaurant offers a full menu and licensed bar. Choose your own beautiful and cozy site at the Hines Creek Golf Course campground. Relax to the sound of the nearby Hines Creek and enjoy the scent of evergreens in this uncrowded area of the Mighty Peace Region. Enjoy an easily accessible and relaxed golf experience on this well-treed course in beautiful Clear Hills County. Finish up your round with a beverage on the back patio of the new clubhouse and watch the putting action on the ninth green!

Need a break from meal prep? Don’t worry, the clubhouse restaurant offers a full menu and a licensed bar. Bring your OHV! There is great access to the Sand Lake Trail System in this area, offering more activities for visitors of all ages. Firepits and tables are also available.

Enjoy beautiful Lac Cardinal while camping in the Lac Cardinal Recreation Area. This area is located adjacent to the Queen Elizabeth Provincial Park on the eastern shore of Lac cardinal. Drive 5 miles northwest of the Town of Grimshaw on Township Road 833A off Highway 35 to reach this 16 site campground. Enjoy fire pits, playground and a camp kitchen. No hookups or showers available.

This is a really great location to enjoy many activities! The lake offers endless hours of activity – paddle boarding, canoeing and kayaking to name a few! There is a nearby boat launch for those wishing to enjoy tubing or water skiing. The Lac Cardinal Pioneer Village Museum as well as the rodeo grounds can easily be accessed on foot from the campground. The North Peace Stampede is held at these rodeo grounds each summer!

There is a large hall available to rent from the municipality – great for family reunions or any function!

Leddy Lake is a quiet and peaceful camping area located 24km northwest of Peace River on Highway 743, near Weberville.  Campers can expect very private sites with lots of fire wood available.  Electrical hookups, kitchen shelters and water are available to campers.  Launch your boat and enjoy beautiful sunsets and viewing the many birds and animals living in the area.  While there is no fishing, visitors can enjoy horseshoes, hiking, canoeing and kayaking.  Families visiting here can enjoy a great park for kids as well as a nice sandy area for hours of entertainment.  

In the winter the fun doesn’t stop. Enjoy a sparkling and crisp winter’s day on a sled trail that starts with a scenic loop at Leddy Lake and runs 40km north to the area of Driftwood Lake near Deadwood.
