Summer
The lake is plentiful with trout and the day’s catch are easily prepped at a handy cleaning station. Paddlers and non-motorized boaters enjoying this pristine lake may spot some of the abundant wildlife found in this area. Hikers and mountain bikers can access the scenic trails that run through this area and beach lovers can swim, play along the shore, or sunbathe on the pier. No matter what your favorite activity is, everyone will enjoy ending a wonderful day around a warm and cozy campfire. Can’t stay long? Jack Bird Pond is located in this park as well, this day use area is perfect for family walks, picnics, and bird spotting.
Winter
The Peace Country is famous for it’s sunny winter days, embrace the season and discover all the possibilities that Moonshine Lake has to offer all winter long. 17km of cross-country ski trails as well as a 2.5km Lakeview snowshoe trail take visitors through a snowy tree lined wonderland. Or try experiencing a sparkling, blue sky day of ice fishing, it’s something you won’t soon forget. Adventurers can visit the Jack Bird Pond day use area to take a break, warm up and enjoy a snack around a crackling campfire. Plan on staying until after sunset, this is a great dark sky area to view the vast starry skies of the north and who knows, you might be lucky enough to spot the aurora borealis!

This day use site is located approximately 30 km west of Spirit River on Highway 49 and then at TWP Rd. 791 continue to travel north on Highway 49 for approximately 400 m then turn west into the approach and immediately north to the pond. After parking near the eastern shore of the lake, the area can be accessed by foot. No open fires please. Watch closely for many types of wildlife that are abundant in this area. Black bear, coyotes, elk, moose, deer and a multitude of birds call this beautiful area home.
