Enjoy a relaxing hike or hop on your mountain bike and explore Pat’s Creek Interpretive Trail. Fresh air, beautiful views and wide-open spaces await visitors exploring this easily accessible trail only a quick 5-minute drive from the Town of Peace River. The trail head can be located by driving through the Sunrise Gateway Business Park, then turning onto the Fairground Road and continuing on until you reach the end of the road. Pat’s Creek is a tributary of the Peace River. It is named after Patrick Wesley, a Métis man who lived in a cabin adjacent to the creek on his property. Pat’s Creek Valley consists of glacial deposits left over from the last ice age about 12,000 years ago. The full 7.6km hike takes about 2 hours or turn back at the metal stair landing for a shorter 10-minute walk.  Bring a picnic and be ready to capture photos of the stunning landscape and abundant wildlife in this spectacular spot!

Enjoy a long, sunny northern Alberta summer’s day at Murphy’s Flats. This scenic day use area running along the Smoky River is the perfect spot to enjoy an active day of hiking, fishing, kayaking or canoeing.  The river may offer a natural sandy or rocky beach depending on the flow and height of the river water. The nearby Peace River Wildland Provincial Park offers amazing areas for mountain biking and hiking adventurers. A leisurely stroll, rock collecting as well as wildlife and bird watching can be enjoyed by more gentle explorers.  Pack a picnic so you can stay all day!  There are firepits, tables and free firewood available. This newly developed area is open from the May long weekend to the October long weekend.

To access this area from Highway 744 near Marie Reine, turn west onto TWP RD 822, then turn left on RGE RD 222.5 and turn right onto 821.5 or alternately turn off Highway 744 west onto TWP RD 820, then turn right on RGE RD 222 and turn right onto 821.5.

Explore the legendary Mighty Peace, from the fur trade to modern times, through the exhibits at our museum. Discover Nampa and Northern Sunrise County’s historic multicultural roots by following the steps of those who ventured to Canada’s northern-most homesteading area, across the Grouard Trail and onto the railways that took people from all over the world through muskeg to the Mighty Peace Country. Learn about local industries, about farming, about traditional ways as we guide you through the indoor and outdoor exhibits and buildings. With displays on two floors open year round and outdoor exhibits accessible from May to September, the Nampa and District Museum is more than worth a gander.

Major attractions include:

• The original water tank built by the Central Canada Railway to which Nampa owes its very own existence;
• Our old-time boardwalk of shops and businesses from the early to mid 1900’s;
• Our taxidermy exhibits, showing off local wildlife in the area
• The Rucka settlement house (circa 1937)
• Reno’s Ukrainian Catholic Church (circa 1946)

The Sagitawa Lookout is located just south of the Town of Peace River on Hwy 744 in Northern Sunrise County. Sagitawa is a Cree word meaning “Where the rivers meet”.  The Lookout has a spectacular view of the Town of Peace River and the confluence of the Peace, Smoky and Heart rivers. The Lookout is complete with picnic area and historical information.

Directions from Main Street Peace River:

Drive down Main Street ( 100 Street) to the bottom of Main, then turn left onto 102 Avenue. Follow this to 102 Avenue, turn right and cross the Heart River bridge. Turn left onto 104 Avenue and follow the Hwy 744 signs. The Lookout is located up the “Judah Hill”. Watch for lookout signage.

Rendez-Vous RV Park is the ideal getaway located just minutes east of Peace River, at the junction of Highway 2 and 688. Open year-round, the park offers a variety of accommodations to suit every traveler.

Rendez-Vous RV Park has recently introduced Glamping Domes for those seeking a unique experience. These include one basic dome with a king bed and power, along with two domes featuring kitchens and bathrooms. For larger groups or families, spacious three-bedroom cabins are an excellent choice.

The park offers amenities for every type of visitor. A BBQ shelter is available at no extra charge, ideal for family gatherings or small events. Guests can also enjoy the authentic First Nations Tipi, which is free to use.

Outdoor enthusiasts will appreciate the proximity to Cecil Thompson Park, featuring a fishing pond, playground, walking trails, exercise equipment, and a giant bouncy pillow for family fun. Additionally, secure storage for RVs, vehicles, and boats, as well as weatherproof indoor storage units, are available for monthly rent.

Community Park and Campground, the bouncy pillow at Cecil Thompson Park has fast become a landmark in the community of Northern Sunrise County. In addition to the bouncy pillow the park features; challenging outdoor exercise equipment, a wonderful fishing pond, a beautiful gazebo and a walking bridge. A perfect location to spend the day or spend the night at one of the 5 unserviced lots, available first come first serve at no charge.

The bouncy pillow is available from 8am – 10pm, 7 days a week.

A breathtaking lookout over the Town of Peace River in honor of Henry Fuller Davis, a trader on the Peace River who literally struck gold on a 12 foot claim in the 1860s. The park features include pathways, landscaping, interpretive panels, picnic benches and parking. This is a great viewpoint and photography spot.

Getting There:

Once in the Town of Peace River take Highway 2 South  heading up the East Hill. Once at the top of the hill take a left onto Sunrise Road and immediately turn left on Fairgrounds Road. Travel for approximately 1 kilometre, look for signage and turn left on Twelve Foot Davis Road. This road will lead to the gravesite.
