The Rycroft Agricultural Society is the heart of Rycroft’s community spirit, hosting a diverse range of events in the Rycroft Ag Centre, conveniently located just off Hwy 49 in the Village of Rycroft. As a key gathering place for the Peace River Region, the Centre provides space for everything from meetings and conventions to weddings, dances, markets, and more.

One of the Society’s most exciting events is their annual Race the 8, a high-speed spectacle where teams of horses and drivers compete in an action-packed relay, showcasing agility, teamwork, and tradition. It’s a must-see event that draws participants and spectators alike, offering an exciting blend of sportsmanship and community camaraderie.

The newly constructed Rodeo Grounds are also available for rentals and annual memberships, making it an ideal venue for rodeos, jackpots, outdoor clinics, and more. The Savanna Climbing Wall, located at the Savanna School gymnasium in Saddle Hills County, is an exciting indoor adventure for climbers of all ages! Situated at 10006 Highway 681, Silver Valley, AB, this facility offers a fantastic climbing experience with all the necessary equipment provided, including harnesses and shoes. Whether you’re a first-timer or an experienced climber, the wall is designed for everyone—just as long as climbers can communicate with their belayer and fit into the harnesses. It’s the perfect place to challenge yourself, have fun, and build strength, all while enjoying a safe and guided experience. Directions: Turn west off Highway 2 at Rycroft onto Highway 49, after 35km turn right onto Highway 725, after 23km turn left onto Highway 681, travel on this highway for 13km, then turn right, the school will be on your left. 

Heilan Beer House is a family friendly establishment that was built from the ground up by a small crew alongside the owners, and opened in 2019. When entering the brewery you will notice features such as the hop lighting, beer taps, and table tops that are unique only to this brewery. If you love pizza, their wood fired oven is sure to impress and with constant rotating taps, one visit will not be enough to satisfy your cravings.

If you are interested in live music, Open Mic Thursday’s with the local talent is not to be missed. This small town brewery will be sure to impress and have you coming back for more or at the very least, you will be talking a growler home with you!

Experience the day to day life of a Peace Country pioneer at the Lac Cardinal Pioneer Village Museum.  Stroll through this depiction of a typical 1920s to 1940s pioneer village and experience what life would have been like for these hardy pioneers.  Immerse yourself in history as you tour four fully furnished houses, a school, a blacksmith shop and a general store!  You can practically smell the bread baking in the bakery!  The village also includes a fire hall, municipal office, carpenter shop, church, barn and library! 

Pioneer Day celebrations are held annually on the second Saturday of August. This is a great way to enjoy the museum!  Start your day with a pancake breakfast and then actually see the saw mill, threshing machine and blacksmith in operation!  Witness butter being churned the old- fashioned way and then take a horse and wagon ride!  Enjoy a lunch of beef on a bun and pie while listening to the musical entertainment on offer.

Hive Hero’s, Valley Bee Café is a “sweet” place to visit; it boasts an observation window into the honey extraction room, an observation hive, a larger than life mural, bee facility tours, a community word search, handmade journals, and plenty of other goods created by local artisans. The community tables invite conversation and connection, giving visitors the opportunity to meet new people and also run into old friends.

People of all ages come to explore the world of bee year round!

Peace River Brewing was opened in March 2018 by a local couple that began the business as a hobby. As a passionate herbalist and aspiring homesteader who loves serving her community, Sarah is often found at our local Farmer’s Market, chatting with customers while selling her handcrafted creations. Inspired by her love of people and the planet, her vast product collection features only the highest quality organic and ethically sourced ingredients. Some of her most beloved products by the community, like her plantain salve, include acreage-grown or wildcrafted plants found right here in the Peace Country.

Beyond her beloved product line, Sarah is also a passionate teacher who offers a variety of fun and educational workshops at her beautiful acreage studio. From crafting skincare to blending herbal teas or learning how to make traditional medicines like elderberry syrup, Sarah inspires her guests to take their wellness into their own hands by creating safe and natural products for themselves and their families. She dreams of converting their acreage into a botanical garden destination and offering garden tours featuring local and medicinal plants. The Green Goddess Studio is located 20 minutes from Peace River: Take Highway 2 south to Nampa, and just before Nampa, turn left on South Harmon Valley Road for 11 km. Turn right on Range Road 195; the studio is located on the first acreage on the left.

Discover Nampa and Northern Sunrise County’s historic multicultural roots by following the steps of those who ventured to Canada’s northern-most homesteading area, across the Grouard Trail and onto the railways that took people from all over the world through muskeg to the Mighty Peace Country. Learn about local industries, about farming, about traditional ways as we guide you through the indoor and outdoor exhibits and buildings. With displays on two floors open year round and outdoor exhibits accessible from May to September, the Nampa and District Museum is more than worth a gander.

• The original water tank built by the Central Canada Railway to which Nampa owes its very own existence;
• Our old-time boardwalk of shops and businesses from the early to mid 1900’s;
• Our taxidermy exhibits, showing off local wildlife in the area
