Heart River Golf Course Campground

The Heart River Golf Course offers a small but beautiful Lion’s campground just below the first tee box. This golf course is a challenging nine-hole course located on the scenic Heart River just East of Nampa. Warm up on the driving range, check out the pro shop and enjoy the fully licensed clubhouse and restaurant. Heart River Golf Course offers one of the best patios in the Mighty Peace overlooking the beautiful and lush golf course as well as the majestic Heart River. A perfect place to stay on tournament weekends, or just to relax with friends. • Campground Fees: Includes water and power:  $25 per day / $150 per week
• Power Sites: We have 13 serviced lots with power, water, fire pits, and picnic tables. There is a wood bin close by, and firewood is included. All of the sites are cozily nestled into the trees to maximize privacy for our campers.

Day Use
The location adjacent to the campground is the perfect spot for a family reunion, staff function, or a get-together with friends. There is a rental fee of $40.00 to rent the camp kitchen.

The Hines Creek Golf Course is truly a hidden gem in the Peace Country! Located 6 km south of Hines Creek just off of Highway 64, this family-friendly course is a short and scenic drive from both Grande Prairie and Peace River.

Enjoy an affordable and relaxing golf experience on this beautifully treed course in the spectacular Clear Hills County. This is the second oldest course in Northern Alberta and a wagon wheel monument on the course commemorates the Fort Saint John Wagon Trail which ran through the area many years ago.

Priding themselves on excellence and professionalism, Valley B Aviation are Remote Operation Specialists, an approved Robinson Helicopter Company Service Center. They get their clients safely and efficiently to places that usually do not have road access, and provide aircraft owners with the highest level of helicopter maintenance. Exploring Alberta’s North and beyond? 

Be sure to stop in at the Mile Zero Marker in Grimshaw and get a photo!  This monument which is part of the Tom Baldwin Memorial Arboretum and the Historic Mackenzie Highway Park, is easy to find, right off the main highway 2 going through the town of Grimshaw. The historic Northern Alberta Railway car beside the marker, offers another photo opportunity for visitors.  The monument marks mile zero of the Mackenzie Highway that will lead visitors north to Manning, High Level, Hay River, Yellowknife and beyond. 

Historic Dunvegan is a provincially and nationally designated historic resource. Experience history through 4 original, authentically restored and furnished buildings and the stories of Indigenous, fur trade, and mission life that our historic interpreters are waiting to share with you. Located alongside the Peace River with a breathtaking view of Alberta’s longest vehicle suspension bridge, there are activities for the whole family! A visitors’ centre located near the entrance offers information as well as guided tours of the historic buildings. The Visitor Centre and historic buildings are open from May 18 through Labour Day, 10am-5pm Wednesday through Sunday and holiday Mondays. Admission fees apply.

Other nearby amenities include a day use area and campground operated by Alberta Parks. A playground, fire pits, cook shelters, and horseshoe pitches are all available. The Maples Day use area is just down the road, and offers a picnic shelter, fire pits, and a playground. The Peace River Motocross Track is described as one of the more pro style tracks on the Peace Motocross Association circuit, it keeps riders on their A-game with big jumps and technical features. The track, which opened in August 2015, has been enjoyed by local and regional enthusiasts. For more information, see the Peace River Motocross Club’s Facebook group. St. Isidore Museum & Cultural Centre – English

Situated in the quaint hamlet of St-Isidore, is a museum that depicts the storied heritage of the francophone community that left Quebec to establish itself in the Mighty Peace. In the museum, you’ll find costumes, pictures and artefacts that tell the story of hardships and victories. Also, theres a train car replica inside of the museum to help visualize the trek that the families had to make with their enormous families as well as with their livestock.

St. Isidore Museum & Cultural Centre – French

Situé dans le pittoresque hameau de St-Isidore, ce musée présente l’héritage historique de la communauté francophone qui a permis au gens du Québec de s’établir au sein de la région de Rivière-de-la-Paix. Dans le musée, vous trouverez des costumes, des images et des artefacts qui racontent l’histoire des épreuves et des victoires. De plus, il y a une réplique d’un wagon de train à l’intérieur du musée pour aider à visualiser le trek que les familles devaient faire avec leur famille et avec leur bétail. The historic Peace River NAR Station, last of its kind in northern Alberta.

The NAR Station was built in 1916, a Class C Station, it is the last of its kind in Northern Alberta. The station was restored in 1988, and declared a Provincial Historic Resource Site on April 29, 1988. It now serves as the Town of Peace River’s Visitor Information Centre. The ground floor has been furnished to the 1920s-1930s era, and upstairs features local art. Events are held at the station throughout the summer and autumn.

This is the place to make all of your Mighty Peace plans. Offering free information for sightseeing, attractions, accommodations, museums, tours and restaurants. The have a complete collection of current information on the Mighty Peace. 

The Visitor Information Centre is your one-stop shop for planning your time in the Mighty Peace. The professional, highly-trained staff can help you make the most of your Mighty Peace experience and plan your journeys into Mighty Peace and beyond.

From Highway 2 (Edmonton or Fairview/Grimshaw):

Exit the highway at 100 Street (Hwy 744), and head south under the railway trestle. At the traffic circle, take the first exit (the first right); the street that leads between the Sawridge Hotel and the KFC. Follow this street until you see the NAR Station, which is a two-storey red wooden building. There is adequate parking on site.

From Highway 744 (north from Girouxville):

When you’ve made it to the bottom of Judah hill at the junction of 104^th Avenue and 101 Street turn right. Follow this street (101 Street) north until you reach the T junction (the Fire Hall with a tower will be facing you). Turn left, and at the set of lights turn right. Follow this street to the traffic circle. Enter the traffic circle and take the third exit; the street that leads between the Sawridge Hotel and the KFC. Follow this street until you see the NAR Station, which is a two-storey red wooden building. There is adequate parking on site.

Accessibility:

The NAR Station does have a ramp onto the station platform, however we do not have accessible washrooms. Because we are an historic building, our doorways may be too narrow for some wheel chairs.

The Peace Valley Snow Riders are a group dedicated to helping families and friends get out of the house and enjoy the Mighty Peace this winter. Their mission is to promote responsible snowmobiling in the Peace Region and develop trails that form a network on both the east and west side of Peace River. Each trail has rest stops with fire pits, picnic tables, outhouses and firewood.

With many sights and scenery to appreciate, riding their trails is a must this winter!

The legendary 12 Foot Davis statue!

Henry Fuller Davis struck it rich in the mid-1800s on a 12 Foot gold claim in northern British Columbia, earning him around $12,000 as well as the “12 Foot Davis” nickname. Spending much of his life as a fur trader on the Peace River, he left his mark on many places in the region and was known for his good business sense and friendliness.

A wooden statue of 12 Foot Davis stands proudly in Riverfront Park,  located along the bank of the Peace River, downtown Peace River. The park is complimented by a children’s playground, gazebo, and a beautiful view of the Peace River. A paved walking trail connects the park to the Peace River Museum, Archives and Mackenzie Centre.

5 Star Golf Course is a par 32, 9 hole gem, all on its own, that can be found in the Little Smoky River Region in the northern part of Alberta. It is a unique and inviting golf experience, surrounded by forest, that displays itself before you with it’s beautifully landscaped fairways, immaculate greens and challenging bunkers. The course is conveniently located in the picturesque river valley along the Little Smoky River. It is a favorite destination for golfers in the local area and also for those who are visiting that are just looking for a relaxing game to fit into their schedule.

Community Park and Campground, the bouncy pillow at Cecil Thompson Park has fast become a landmark in the community of Northern Sunrise County. In addition to the bouncy pillow the park features; challenging outdoor exercise equipment, a wonderful fishing pond, a beautiful gazebo and a walking bridge. A perfect location to spend the day or spend the night at one of the 5 unserviced lots, available first come first serve at no charge.

The bouncy pillow is available from 8am – 10pm, 7 days a week.

A breathtaking lookout over the Town of Peace River in honor of Henry Fuller Davis, a trader on the Peace River who literally struck gold on a 12 foot claim in the 1860s. The park features include pathways, landscaping, interpretive panels, picnic benches and parking. This is a great viewpoint and photography spot.

Getting There:

Once in the Town of Peace River take Highway 2 South  heading up the East Hill. Once at the top of the hill take a left onto Sunrise Road and immediately turn left on Fairgrounds Road. Travel for approximately 1 kilometre, look for signage and turn left on Twelve Foot Davis Road. This road will lead to the gravesite.
